Spray tanning dark skin

Airbrush tanning isn’t just for the fair-skinned. It can also do wonders for those with brown or olive skin that tans easily in the sun.

The main thing to remember is that while someone with dark or olive pigmentation has greater natural protection against the UV radiation than someone with fair skin, that person is still at risk for skin damage – or worse.

That’s why the American Academy of Dermatology recommends routine use of a broad-spectrum sunscreen with a sun protection factor (SPF) of 15 or greater for everyone including people with dark or even black skin.

The main benefit of spray tanning for dark skin is that it helps clients make the most of their epidermal assets without harming their health. Skin tones look more even, which in turn can enhance the dark hair and eyes that usually go with dark or olive pigmentation.

Olive-skinned clients can be a challenge to work with, though, because of the unique green-gold undertone that goes along with their skin type. Celebrity makeup artist Martha Friedlander mixes our Brazilian Blend and Expresso tanning solutions and says that the result creates a radiant deep bronze color that her discriminating clients love.

People with darker skins also require special after-care. Like those with very fair skin, they are prone to greater dryness, particularly around elbows and knees. Using NG Anti-Aging Moisture Lock after an airbrush tan can seal out dryness while daily moisturizing with our Tan Extender lotion can ensure a smoother, longer-lasting look.

NG tanning solutions make everyone – from those with the very darkest to the very lightest skin – look great. And because we are a company that believes health is the cornerstone to beauty, our products are natural and vegan.
