All about spray tanning

Some clients you encounter may want to know whether you do full-body nude spray tanning. The best way to handle this is to decide beforehand what you’ll do and have a policy in place that states explicitly what’s acceptable and what isn’t.

The minimum

Many spray tan professionals will typically make both men and women wear at least a thong. This protects delicate mucus membranes from DHA, which the FDA says is a must for all people getting spray tans. If a client insists, you can achieve a lineless (or virtually lineless look) by moving thong straps. Or you can suggest that they use a tan touch-up product like NG’s Brazilian Mist to spray personal areas that get covered during the spray tan session.

Baring it all

Some professionals have no difficulty doing nude spray tanning. If this is something you are willing to do, then here are some tips to help you get the job done as professionally as possible:

  • avoid spray tanning freshly shaved or waxed areas

  • ask clients to move body parts you need to spray around

  • wear gloves

Do not spray tan either male or female clients on the genital area. If you are a salon owner, you may also find it useful to also have policies regarding who can spray tan full body clients. For example, if you employ both male and female spray tan professionals, you may decide to allot full body jobs by gender (female clients to female tanners and male clients to male tanners).
