Troubleshoot Spray Tanning

You always go the extra mile to make your clients look good. But even with the best equipment, tanning solutions and spray tan techniques, things can sometimes still go wrong.

So what do you do?

Here are four common problems you may encounter and some ways to help you deal with them:

1. Tan is too light

You should only use about 2 ounces of solution per spray tan session. If you use less, you may not achieve the desired effect. Also be aware that if a client has fair skin, that person will not tan as deeply as someone who has a darker skin type.

If one area of the body turns out lighter than the rest, you’ve likely not applied enough solution to it and will need to add an extra coat.

2. Tan is too dark or turns orange

This problem primarily affects people with fair skin. The best thing to do is apply tanning product in thinner coats. You can also use our New Gorgeous Slightly Sunkissed spray tan solution which is formulated to meet the special needs of light-skinned people.

3. Tan gets patchy

Patchiness is generally caused by one or more of three things:

  • excessive friction from clothes

  • insufficient tanning solution dry time

  • inattention to skin hydration

Tell your clients to wear loose clothing after their first session and to moisturize frequently to minimize the possibility of their tan turning patchy.

4. Tan appears scaly

This usually happens because a person’s skin is too dry. It can also happen if a previous tan has not completely faded.

The key to avoiding both problems is thorough exfoliation before a spray-tan session and frequent moisturizing afterwards. Our New Gorgeous Anti-aging Moisture Lock moisturizer extends the life of a spray tan while eliminating fine lines and wrinkles.
