Spray tanning allergic reactions

Spray tan professionals like you are all about beauty enhancement. When your job goes well, it’s fun and rewarding. But when it doesn’t, it can be a letdown, for you and your business.

Here are three common problems you may encounter as you work with your clients and ways you can avoid them.

Allergic reactions

Some people have especially sensitive skin. They can develop such mild problems as irritation or major ones like full-blown breakouts, rashes or even hives.

When a client first comes to you and especially if that person tells you he or she has delicate skin, do a test. Put a small amount of tanning solution on a small, inconspicuous area of the body. If the skin doesn’t react negatively within 5 to 10 minutes of application, you’re probably safe to do a full body tan with that client.

Chemical reactions

Sunless tanning is the product of a chemical reaction between dihydroxyacetone (DHA) and the upper epidermal layers. Sometimes, though, DHA-coated skin can react negatively when other chemicals are introduced into the equation.

Sweat, for example, contains ingredients that can cause tans to streak or become spotty. And some facial scrubs, astringents and even mineral oil-based moisturizers may strip a spray tan off entirely.

So it’s vital to tell your clients in advance what they should avoid doing (for example, heavy exercise or swimming) or putting on their skin to clean and/or moisturize it after a spray tan session.

Discoloration

One of the biggest challenges in using a sunless tanning solution is achieving a natural look. Some products can create skin tones that are unrealistic and uneven or worse, orangey. And if you don’t make your clients use barrier cream on areas like the palm of the hands or the soles of the feet, they can end up with – literally – an all-over tan that will look fake.

NG makes products that can help you avoid all three of these problems. Our sunless tanning solutions are vegan and PETA-certified and have been tested in our Austin salons on skins of all colors and kinds, from the darkest and hardiest to the fairest and most sensitive. They’re also mixable, which means you can customize color for your clients.

We also make a whole array of other fine spray tan and skin care products. Our Anti-Aging Moisture Lock, Tan Extender, and Anti-Aging Body Oil are 100% natural and made to work in complete harmony with all the ingredients we use in our tanning solutions.

Avoiding problems with your clients can be as simple as making the right product choices. Contact us today and let us show you the trouble-free way to spray tan success!
