Facts about DHA

If you as a salon owner get any questions about DHA and its safety, you must know that DHA is a perfectly safe element as long as it is used externally. Precautions must be taken to ensure it is not inhaled.

It’s important to remember that the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved dihydroxyacetone for external use only. When used properly, DHA is safe for almost everyone including people who have sensitive skin or asthma.

DHA is a naturally-occurring substance commonly derived from sugar cane that bronzes skin by interacting with dead skin cells. Because it works at a surface level, DHA does not get absorbed into the bloodstream.

The only way this can happen is if a DHA-containing product is gets into the body via the eyes, nose or mouth. The way to avoid this is to have your clients wear protective eyewear along with a nose filter and to keep their mouths closed during a spray tan procedure.
