7 Tips to Help Your Clients Prolong Their Spray Tans

You may be an expert airbrush tanning technician who uses great spray tan solutions like New Gorgeous to give your clients that just-from-the-beach bronzed look they crave. But your clients also play an important role in determining how well their spray tans wear and how long they last.

Here are some basic before and after spray tan care tips that you can offer to your clients:

  1. Do all shaving or waxing at least 24 hours before a spray tan appointment – Shaving and waxing after a spray tan will cause color loss due to the shedding of dead skin layers that occurs during the depilatory process.

  2. Exfoliate skin thoroughly prior to a spray tan – The best way to do this is with a body scruband an exfoliating glove the day before. This will ensure that skin will be smooth and ready to accept coloring.

  3. Do not apply any products to the skin before getting airbrushed – Clients should avoid using deodorant, moisturizer, perfume or anything else on the day they come in for their spray tans. This is because some substances may react with the spray tan and cause unexpected discoloration.

  4. Bring loose-fitting clothes to the salon – This will minimize the chance that a spray tan will rub against clothing and cause streaking or uneven tone.

  5. Do not shower, swim or do anything that causes perspiration for at least 6 to 8 hours after the spray tan session – Even though a spray tan may look “finished” after an airbrush session, it’s a good idea to let the ingredients settle onto and bond with skin.

  6. After receiving a spray tan, moisturize at least two times a day – A good moisturizer helps hydrate the skin and slows the shedding process, which in turn prolongs the life of the tan.

  7. Avoid swimming in chlorinated water – Chlorine shortens the lifespan of spray tan and can also have a bleaching effect.
