Airbrush Tanning Irritation?

If the client has had problems in the past, you may want to wait as long as 12 to 24 hours to be absolutely sure.

Even if a client has a clean history, you still need to take precautions. Tell clients to apply moisturizer or barrier cream to areas, such as feet, elbows and knees, before a spray tan session. This will keep them from absorbing too much spray into the skin.

During a spray tan session, make sure to keep the tanning solution away from eyes and face. If possible, have clients use protective eyewear and a nose clip so to prevent sensitive membranes in the eyes and nose from being exposed to spray tan solution.

If irritation still occurs, recommend that the client use an exfoliator to take off the spray tan. Affected clients should then keep the area free of cosmetics for a few days and contact a doctor or dermatologist if symptoms like soreness, redness or itchiness persist.
